EcoDataCenter is investing further in the EcoDataCenter 1 facility in Falun, Sweden, to more than double its current capacity.
The expansion is driven by the company’s success in securing a major global customer as well as increased interest from companies worldwide.
“Since AI exploded at the turn of the year, we have witnessed an unprecedented increase in demand for our services,” said Peter Michelson, CEO of EcoDataCenter.
During 2023, the company and its owner Areim has raised approximately €620 million in capital to fuel the expansion of the company. Now €200 million will be invested, making the data centre one of the largest in Sweden. The expansion will more than double the existing capacity with the first phase to be completed by Q3 2024 and the full build out by Q2 2025. The expansion will bring the site’s total capacity to 45MW.
“For a company that opened its doors in 2019, signing the largest agreement of its kind in Sweden just four years later is an incredible achievement and a testament to the extraordinary work done by the team from the very beginning,” said Michelson.
The expansion also holds significant importance for the local municipality, as it will create jobs and require services to support the expansion. Approximately 300 construction workers per day will be needed during the construction period, along with about 30 permanent jobs.
