The contracted volume increase with Serena underscores its pioneering role and partnership in renewable energy as well as its commitment to sustainability amid exponential growth
ODATA, an Aligned Data Centers company and provider of data centre services for Latin America, has announced the expansion of its wind power supply from the Assuruá IV wind farm (212MW), located in Xique-Xique, Bahia.
This growth is driven by a new agreement with Serena Energia, a global leader in renewable energy supply, and represents a 135% increase in contracted volume.
ODATA set a new industry standard by being the first hyperscale data centre in Latin America to achieve 100% renewable energy usage in Brazil.
The initiative aligns with ODATA’s commitment to fuelling its rapid expansion in Brazil with clean, renewable energy sourced from renewable power plants in which it has a stake.
The expansion of this partnership reinforces the trust and strong synergy between the companies. The on-going success of its collaboration has paved the way for this new phase of the operation, which is expected to be completed upon meeting certain usual precedent conditions. This is another step for ODATA in reinforcing its mission to enhance digital infrastructure with the highest standards of sustainability.
According to Ricardo Alário, CEO of ODATA, this investment is specifically designed to reinforce ODATA’s commitment to ESG principles, as the company has been constructing and expanding its data centre portfolio across Brazil.
“Our commitment to sustainability is a fundamental pillar of ODATA,” said Alário. “We were the first hyperscale data centre provider in Brazil to have 100% of our energy consumption sourced from direct investment in renewable sources.
“We are pleased that this solution is being adopted by the industry, significantly contributing to the country’s transformation into a strategic and eco-friendly hub for the data centre sector. This expansion of our partnership with Serena strengthens our ESG commitment and positions us competitively in the global market,” Alário added.
The new agreement highlights Serena’s expertise in providing renewable energy solutions for data centres, considering the high energy demand driven by cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence.
“Our partnership with ODATA began in 2023, and we’re thrilled to expand our collaboration as they work towards their sustainability goals,” said Fabiana Pasquot Polido, Director of Structured Operations for the Americas at Serena. “This agreement not only strengthens our presence in the data centre market but also demonstrates our on-going commitment to providing clean and reliable energy solutions that meet the growing demands of the sector.”
Alário added: “Our vision is for Brazil to become a premier destination for data centres, offering a sustainable and reliable alternative to meet the rapidly growing need for capacity. By incorporating a clean and self-sufficient energy source, ODATA not only reduces our carbon footprint but also strengthens Brazil’s reputation as a global benchmark in sustainability.”
