Keysource, a global data centre and critical environment specialist, has been appointed by Datum Data Centres to undertake the design and build of a first-floor data centre construction at its site on the Cody Technology Park, Farnborough. It follows Keysource’s successful completion of the preconstruction project and subsequent competitive tender.

The project involves the creation of a new data hall and associated ancillary areas, providing up to 285 new rack positions and capacity for an initial 800kW IT load, scalable up to 1,500kW (1.5MW).  The facility will support mixed density applications through a flexible power distribution system and high efficiency cooling approach. Comprehensive security systems will maintain the high security standards along with monitoring and management systems to facilitate early warning and optimisation.

Its modular design and prefabrication will enable the project to be completed in under five months, making it operational for the anchor tenant by October 2020. This includes front of house works, the installation of a passenger and goods lifts, secure customer access and a goods in and storage areas. The project will be delivered in accordance with COVID-19 working guidelines for construction.

Dominic Phillips, Managing Director at Datum, said: “Keysource has been our trusted advisor since 2013 and has completed a range of projects for us, including a number of upgrades and fit-outs to meet the needs of both our new and existing customers. It has shown us that having a pre-construction phase for these projects is extremely valuable in helping us to achieve the right result that is futureproof and delivers our key business objectives.”

Jon Healy, Operations Director at Keysource, said: “Having a robust pre-construction phase before undertaking the design and build or upgrade of a data centre facility has a number of major benefits for clients. These include a robust design and delivery approach, with an ability to maintain cost control. For organisations that are operating a live facility, it also ensures that there is no impact on existing operations.”
