Riverbed brings cloud and enterprise network traffic analysis to Amazon Web Services

SteelCentral AppResponse Cloud to natively connect with new Amazon Virtual Private Cloud traffic mirroring to deliver near real-time network monitoring and troubleshooting across the hybrid enterprise.

Riverbed, the Digital Performance Company, has announced support for Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) traffic mirroring from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

With SteelCentral AppResponse Cloud, Riverbed support will allow network and cloud operations teams to gain network-based application performance management that quickly surfaces performance anomalies across the entire hybrid enterprise.

SteelCentral AppResponse Cloud is part of Riverbed’s Digital Experience Management platform, which enables organisations to measure, analyse and manage the user’s digital experience.

While cloud platforms offer incredible scale and agility, they also create performance blind spots that can impact the user’s digital experience. IT teams are often unable to detect problems in cloud environments before they affect users due to the distributed, transitory nature of cloud ecosystems and the lack of end-to-end visibility. In fact, 60% of IT managers said end users were likely to notice performance problems in the cloud before IT does.

SteelCentral AppResponse Cloud, a network-based application performance management solution, connects with Amazon VPC traffic mirroring to analyse cloud-based application payloads at scale. Amazon VPC traffic mirroring is a virtual network tap that enables monitoring of network traffic in Amazon VPC.

Riverbed worked with Amazon Web Services to natively connect SteelCentral AppResponse Cloud with Amazon VPC traffic mirroring to deliver a passive and agentless approach to network packet capture and analysis in the cloud.

“Riverbed’s SteelCentral AppResponse Cloud uses Amazon VPC traffic mirroring from Amazon Web Services to provide rich, unparalleled network and application visibility into AWS. Riverbed enables IT Operations to quickly pinpoint performance degradations and high latency in cloud and hybrid networks, automatically identify more than 2,000 applications for detailed application analysis, as well as identify and troubleshoot issues faster and easier with aggregated traffic,” said Mike Sargent, Senior Vice President, General Manager- SteelCentral, at Riverbed.

“As an industry leader in Digital Experience Management solutions and a six-time Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Network Performance Management and Diagnostics, we are proud to collaborate with AWS in bringing such a vital solution to the market.”

With the introduction of Amazon VPC traffic mirroring, SteelCentral AppResponse Cloud can connect with a native source of packet traffic to effectively address network and application performance management use cases, including:

  • Monitoring the health and performance of networks and networked applications
  • Troubleshooting network and application service problems
  • Network capacity planning and management
  • Cloud application assessments and migration planning
  • Security monitoring and incident response

In addition to Amazon VPC traffic mirroring, SteelCentral AppResponse Cloud supports SteelCentral Agent packet mirroring, Cisco CSR 1000v, Big Switch Big Monitoring Fabric, Gigamon GigaSECURE Cloud, and Keysight/IXIA CloudLens for packet capture and troubleshooting on AWS. The update will be available by the end of September 2019.
